Tell us a little bit about your work.
The drawings that I make are rooted in trying to understand what goes on in my life. I try to make subtle references to particular events or moments, but at the same time, due to the nature of the way I remember things, most of these things seem to get exaggerated in some way. So most of the work exists on some type of halfway point between truth and fiction.
How do you go about creating a piece?
While the drawings themselves are visually rather simple and minimal, the creative process is more complicated. I tend to think about each drawing for a long time before attempting to put something down on paper. That way once I actually begin to create anything, it comes out much more naturally and easily since I have a clear idea of what I want.
I work as an assistant at the Western Washington University Library, in the gift and donation section.
Tools of the trade?
ink, watercolor, paper , a few brushes and pencils.
Hopefully I will finally graduate from college with this B.A. degree of mine -- the academic system has definitely been one giant disillusion. Besides that I am included in Tim Barber's "various photographers" exhibit, and hopefully in this near future I will self publish a small book/zine of some of my drawings.
