23... Based in Melbourne Australia, I live in a small town out side of the city, in a place called sassafrass. it far enough out from melbourne to be unaware of what is happing in the outside world, it's in the forrest so there is plenty of wild life out hear. I'd rather see what there all up to instead... www.justinleewilliams.blogspot.com
Tell us a little bit about your work.
At the moment, i am focusing on the transitions society places on each other. I used to live in the city, and decided to move as far away from it all as possible,
I find a kind of innocents and simplicity to animals, yet at the same time there is a underlining complexity that in some ways is matched to or own. As humans we tend to hold on to our 'scars' and believe that what dosent kill us makes us stronger, fuck that I say, if a wild cat treys to kill a possum, and takes a massive bit out of his leg, if the possum survives, he will be out on the forrest floor the next day, doing the same things as he was before.
so in some ways i play on different emotions, and try to capture this in creating animals and mixing them with human figures, it helps to allow us to relate.
How do you go about creating a piece?
most of the time, it's straight from the sketch book, i try not to take it to far from the paper, as i think it starts to loose its original form... If i muck up in the sketch book, but over all i am happy, then some times i will apply that same incorrectness to the art work, also spelling words incorrectly i enjoy, watching the way people can get so court up in 'mistakes is great, they will be reading the text, and understanding the words, but so upset with a typo ! its great to watch.
books, animals, and life.
I chop wood in the forrest and sell it back to all the bed and breakfast's around hear, all the trees i chop have fallen down, and when times are tuff, and rent is due, I donate my body for medical testing, sometimes it sucks, and hurts, but it gives me time to sketch, they also supply all the meals.
Tools of the trade?
wood, paper, graphite, water color, oils, charcoal, but i will use any thing i can get my hands on.
Worst and best thing ever?!
breaking both of your arms, and then having to ask your girl friend to wipe your ass !!!!!!... Best? 4 foot and offshore, no one out at express point , Upcoming?
I am having my first ever solo show in melbourne, around August, so i am just working on that, trying to get all the art together, as most of my stuff is still incomplete. and a bunch of group ones after that, then i think ill head over seas for a bit and travel, no planes, just keep it free. best way to be.
