We continue checking in on some of the artists participating in our Winter Group Show opening up this Friday, Dec 7th, @FFDG (6-9pm).
We're so pleased to have the acclaimed Dave Kinsey back in our space since his solo show last May (pics). He's set to open his next solo show at Joshua Liner on Dec 13th.
Dave Kinsey's known for his emotionally charged paintings and murals, as well as high-visibility logos and advertising campaigns, including the ubiquitous DC Shoes logo, The Black-Eyed Peas Elephunk album icon, N.E.R.D. "brain", Epitaph Records identity and, most recently, his work with the international Absolut Blank campaign.

Me messing with your brain.
George Carlin, Lee Bontecou, Franz Kline, Alexander Calder, Tibor Kallman, Caravaggio.
That would be a toss up between Bordeaux and Barcelona.
I don't really have a set routine, but I tend to get up early and chill in the quiet before getting busy. I prefer to work during the day, but when the heat's on nights are perfect too. On today: Echo & The Bunnymen, Cal Tjader, Nas, Grant Green, Lonnie Liston Smith, Czech, Andrew Bird, Gorillaz. 6am
I start off very loose then slowly begin to refine what I see within each piece through a process of layering. Sometimes I have a definite objective of what I'd like to achieve, while other times the final outcome is unexpected, which is what makes creating art so amazing.
Acrylic, collage (book pages, discarded mail, kraft paper), spray paint and ink.

The prospects of 2013, across the board.
I'd probably donate a bunch of it to Valley Wildlife—they rescue and treat wild animals, and then rehabilitate them back into the wild—then leave for Kauai with J. and the pups and set up a winter studio.
Driving through Yokul Valley if it's in the spring, or hitting the Sequoia National Park for some bear time.

I love being so immersed in such a diverse and volatile environment. The natural world is an ongoing ancient organism, which really puts the futility of our existence into perspective.
Just finished up work for my next solo show opening December 13th @ J. Liner Gallery in NYC. I was also recently commissioned by Absolut Vodka to design a bottle, which is set to be released early next year. In 2013 I'm headed for Europe for a couple solo shows as well.
