Last year, I had the opportunity to shoot Tucker Nichols' reception and lecture at the DeYoung. Since then, I've been a fan of Tucker's (having collected a few of his prints and zines), and I felt it was appropriate to follow up with his latest work. Catch "New Work" this month at Gallery 16!
Words and photos: Megan Wolfe
Gallery 16 also shows local artist and designer Rex Ray (that's his work behind the band).
New editions by Deborah Oropallo.
Moving on to Tucker Nichols' work in the next room over, where several installation pieces awaited!
Really liked the look of these all together.
But I think the blue one was definitely my favorite.
Throughout the gallery there were a few "hidden" works (kinda reminded me of easter eggs). This one was hanging out at the front desk.
Mixed media goodness.
Gallery 16's crowd had a nice vibe to it. I'd never been there before, but it's not a bad walk downtown after dark. Lots of people out.
I'd really like to know what this one says when it's unwrapped.. which is probably the point. Dammit.
I'm used to reception tables housing snacks rather than eyecandy, but we'll take a photo anyway.
Erg, maybe this blue one is my favorite over the other one... I can't decide. The contrast here totally pops.
One more "easter egg", hiding up in the gallery's rafters. I almost missed it!
