A short documentary following the late artist, Shawn Whisenant
Thursday, 06 March 2014 /// Written by Trippe

Shawn Whisenant is a born and raised San Francisco Bay Area artist whose art can be found lurking in the streets or galleries and museums across the USA, Australia, and Europe. He has been working on the streets of the Bay Area since the mid 1990's, where his images continue to endure on walls, mailboxes, and other surfaces around the city. He enjoys making books and stickers, taking photos, painting signs, and moving about in the city’s shadows. In the streets and galleries, his work has seen many different forms. From rare-hand crafted books, to skateboard films and a signature pair of Osiris shoes, his creating doesn’t end with painting. RIP Shawn Whisenant.

"Car Poolers" by Alejandro Cartagena
Monday, 11 November 2013 /// Written by Trippe

Love the series "Car Poolers" from photographer Alejandro Cartagena.

Cartagena takes photographs in Monterrey, Mexico, documenting parts of everyday life there that he sees as depicting "a global issue from a local perspective." In a town that has a relatively new, booming construction market, Cartagena decided to document a side of the day laborers' lives that might not often be seen: the commute to and from work at various construction sites.

Cosplay by Klaus Pitchler
Tuesday, 05 November 2013 /// Written by Trippe

We had no idea what the hell Cosplay was when we first saw these images. Had a feeling it had something to do with Comic Con people who are really into their D&D/ mythical/ cartoon/ video game/ comic book characters and really enjoy playing dress up and getting into some serious role playing action... An extension of Furry fandom? In any event the Cosplay costumes can get very involved/ boobie.

These portraits of Cosplayers in their homes are taken by Klaus Pitchler and are part of his series Just the Two of Us. Below are just a few of our favorites. For more, be sure to check his site HERE.

Meals Interrupted
Tuesday, 22 October 2013 /// Written by Trippe

Husband-and-wife Davide Luciano and Claudia Ficca have teamed up to create Meals Interrupted, a photography series of dining tables abruptly disrupted by various events, namely, a bee swarm, a devastating fire, a full-blown cafeteria food fight, a calculated mobster hit, and a heavy rainfall. Each shot vividly captures the disappointment and sense of abandonment that evidently accompanies a gathering that is suddenly and unexpectedly ended.

Charles Emerson Photography
Tuesday, 24 September 2013 /// Written by Trippe

Antlers Gallery (Bristol, UK) is set to open photographs by UK photographer Charles Emerson whose flower underwater phoptography is pretty cool. When we first viewed them online, we thought they were paintings.

Emerson's photography captures a particular moment in his studio, everything you see within the exhibition happened and is real. He constructs a set using a tank, water, glass plates, mirrors and coloured and UV lights. Flowers are submerged in the tank as the core of each piece, Emerson then introduces inks, dyes and paints to imbue the scene with a sense of movement and life. It is this decisive moment which Emerson captures within his photography.

Fabiano Rodrigues Self Portraits
Wednesday, 31 July 2013 /// Written by Trippe

When we were down in Sao Paulo, Brazil a couple years back (photos), we had the pleasure of meeting ex-professional skater/ photographer Fabiano Rodrigues who's represented by the fine folks at LOGO gallery there in Sau Paulo.

Fabiano Rodrigues takes these great self portraits using a Hasselblad camera and a remote control while skating in his newest series... skating inside/ outside museums and around Sao Paulo... These photographs are always one off prints, exploring the history and repertoire of skateboarding movements, particularly its relationship with the city, its architecture and urban furniture. In his choices of locations, there is a special interest for architectural landmarks, such as buildings designed by the renowned Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.

Rip Zinger @Book & Job
Tuesday, 23 July 2013 /// Written by Rachel Ralph

Japanese skate photographer Rip Zinger and skate legend and musician Tommy Guerrero stormed the Book and Job Gallery on Saturday night to host an evening of good old-fashioned skate rock (pics).

Marking the one-year anniversary of the Book and Job, people gathered in the gallery to see and buy Rip Zinger's photos, and spilled outside the door to catch a show by Tommy. Rip Zinger was selling his photos for super cheap, starting at $5, and displayed them in a way that made you feel like you couldn't help but buy a few and support the cause (it probably also helped that he seems like one hell of a salesman).

People were enjoying themselves in the casual atmosphere and I'm told that the cops who came because of the noise were even pretty cool about it and didn't kick anyone out. If this is only year one, the Book and Job Gallery has developed a growing community, and I can't wait for next year's anniversary party.

Whole Foods Rips Off Corey Arnold?
Tuesday, 18 June 2013 /// Written by Trippe

Tucker Nichols emailed over this Whole Foods poster (below right) which looks a lot like one of Corey Arnold's photos (bottom left). Coincidence? Where they inspired by Corey's photo? Did Corey actually shoot the photo? Who knows and Corey is fishing for salmon right now (like this), so we can't ask him to find out.

Wait, on this Instagram, Corey Arnold writes "Ripped off!", so we guess that's your answer.

Whole Foods highly inspired by a Corey Arnold photo. Ripped off?
